The Seniors Housing Information project helps seniors and their family members to understand and choose among available housing options. This project is led by local seniors and the information is provided through trained seniors in our commuity.
The project:
Provides accurate, up-to-date, objective information to Sunshine Coast seniors about their options for housing and related supports;
Involves seniors in outreach and peer mentoring as volunteers in the seniors housing counselling service, breaking down social isolation for both counsellors and their clients;
Models a “seniors helping seniors” culture for our expanding retirement-based community;
Provides training that creates consistent high standards of service provision, and increase capacity for leadership and public education on housing issues among and for seniors;
Adds to the existing resource and referral services available through the Community Resource Centre;
Fills a demonstrated gap in available information on local options for seniors
