Food

Having daily access to enough nutritious food to meet the needs and preferences of everyone in your home is an important part of your well-being. Some people don't have enough healthy food to eat and have to choose between buying food and purchasing medicine or paying rent. How well are you able to eat?

Shelter

Part of creating well-being is knowing that you have a place for you and your family to sleep at night, to prepare meals and to be safe. Not all housing or shelter meets those needs. How is your shelter?

Care

Women are often the primary caregivers for children, aging parents, peers and others. Earning a stable income can be difficult if you lack care for your dependents. If you are ill or have a disability you may even need care for yourself. How well are your care needs met?

Transportation

Whether you are trying to get to work on-time, dropping off kids or picking up food, how well you get around matters. Owning a car is costly and is not an option for everybody. Are you getting where you need to go?

Income

The cost of living is high and we all need some kind of income. A “living wage” on the Sunshine Coast is about $18.80 per hour, based on two full time income earners in a family of four. Does your current income meet your needs?

Belonging

We cooperate with and rely on others to help meet many of our basic needs. Our sense of community and belonging to a place or neighbourhood is a critical part of economic well-being. How well connected do you feel on the Sunshine Coast?

Learning

Meeting the economic needs of a household requires knowledge, skills and sometimes a formal education or special training. What do you need to learn?

Time Use

Consider the paid or unpaid work you may do. Do you have time to rest, exercise or do something for enjoyment? Your time is valuable.

Sunshine Coast women have reported that there is a need for improvement in 4 priority areas that affect economic well-being:

BELONGING - within formal & informal community networks that help women meet basic needs.
INCOME - earnings that pay at least a "living wage" and government assistance rates that actually meet basic needs.

CARE - for the children & adults who depend on them.
TRANSPORTATION - options that help Sunshine Coast women earn income and access services and support.
